Being a destination wedding photographer is a wonderful profession, but also a nerve-wracking one at times. There is always the 'unknown' factor... because we generally can not visit our venue well in advance it creates a little excitement with all the anticipation.

From a photographer's perspective, Cabo Azul was the most accommodating location i have ever photographed. the team of wedding planners and assistants made the day absolutely seamless. if i wanted to have the candles and torches re-lit later that night, they did it. if i needed to take everyone down to the beach- no problem. if i needed a place to store my equipment- they did it immediately. when i had questions about travel documents, hotels, safety issues, etc., they were so prompt in emailing back. it is safe to say that the service from Cabo Azul far exceeded my expectations, and rivals every other local wedding i have ever done.

not only was service great at Cabo Azul, but i felt safe everywhere off the resort. I walked to and from my resort to Cabo Azul, and all around the town carrying a camera, even after dark. All the locals were respectful, kind, and helpful. the entire town made my visit exceptional.

Also, there was not a single spot in this resort that wasn't absolute eye-candy for a photographer. There were so many architectural details and amazing lighting (both natural and man-made)... my only wish is that i could have had more hours with my couple to take advantage of all Cabo Azul's wonderful aspects.

i could not give this location or the service any higher regards!

"Imagine this….Family and friends are gathered in a beautiful wood paneled, open aired chapel. Ahead of them lies a seemingly never-ending view of the magical Sea of Cortez. The sound of ocean waves crashing on the beach in the background only gives way to the beautiful music playing as you walk down the aisle ready to begin the rest of your life. It’s about this moment that you think to yourself “I really made the right decision, there is no better place to get married than Cabo Azul”.

We were married at Cabo Azul in October 2010. A destination wedding for an expected guest list of 150-200 people was a scary proposition but we had fallen in love with Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo and were excited about the prospect of being married there. Once we walked onto the grounds at Cabo Azul and had that first meeting, we were sold.

The resort is located in the beautiful colonial city of San Jose del Cabo. The city and resort are a short 15 minute cab or shuttle ride from the airport (opposed to a 45-60 min. ride to Cabo). San Jose is an artist’s community that is a quieter destination than Cabo. This is where the good life is celebrated and this city provides the perfect setting to simply relax and enjoy your time away.

Some of the most amazing restaurants are found in downtown San Jose and if you’re looking for a fun place to hang and enjoy some local beverages, San Jose has that too. And for daytime activities, the resort is 5-15 minutes to water sports and some of the best golf courses in the area, including Palmilla and Cabo Del Sol.

Cabo Azul itself rivals any of the top tier resorts throughout the greater Cabo San Lucas area. The rooms are large and the amenities first rate. The grounds are the same. A subtle elegance looms over the property with its three infinity pools and the beautiful view of the ocean. The staff from check-in to check out is incredibly attentive and everyone staying there is more than a VIP, they are treated like family.

The Wedding Staff is second to none. Your wish is their command and they will do everything to make sure the experience is as smooth as possible. From the beginning planning stages to the last dance they make you feel comfortable and secure. One thing that stood out to us was that we spoke with a lot of people at the property who had come back to vacation there well after their weddings and all said the same thing about the staff and the experience.

The facilities are top notch as well. You’ll be hard pressed to find two more beautiful places to celebrate any where in the world than the Chapel and Javier’s. The Chapel is an open aired space located on the second floor that looks out at the Sea of Cortez. The space has marble flooring and is wrapped in an elegant, beautifully finished, wood paneling. And did I mention that view….

Javier’s is the perfect location for a reception. The restaurant is also open aired so you feel as free as the never ending ocean view that borders the restaurant. The space has an understated elegance highlighted by traditional décor with a contemporary touch. Most importantly it has everything a wedding celebration needs. Along with a full service restaurant, the space has an area for a pre-dinner cocktail reception and an area to dance the night away under the moonlight. As I said, it’ll be difficult to find a better place for a wedding reception, period.

One of our wedding goals was trying to avoid the normal wedding fare – food that is dry and uneventful. The Food served at Javier’s (and throughout the resort) is incredible. The chefs at Javier’s are amazing and our guests are still raving about the food. The menu choices are refreshing and different from those at the standard community reception hall wedding, and I promise you’re guests will rave about the food as well.

Cabo Azul provided a dream setting for a dream wedding. Every one of our guests fell in love with the resort just as we did and all said they’d be back. As for the wedding, it’s still talked about today as one of the best on everyone’s lists and obviously words cannot explain how happy we are for making this decision. If you’re looking for a destination wedding that will exceed all expectations, that will provide an elegant setting and the perfect place for you, family and friends to celebrate, Cabo Azul is this place. We promise they will exceed all expectations and will make sure your wedding dreams come true. "

Cabo Azul Resort makes Expedia's Elite 500

It is official, Cabo Azul Resort is a 2011 Expedia Insider’s Select winner. Basically what this means is that we are in an elite group of hotels to get this designation. Expedia has over 130,000 hotels in their system and the Expedia Insider’s Select list is comprised of the top 500 hotels or, the top .4% of the hotels represented.

Is Los Cabos safe to travel to?

Cabo Azul Resort is a hip and trendy award winning resort and resides in the safe and secluded Los Cabos area at the southern tip of Baja California Sur. The relaxing Los Cabos area is in the unique position where the majestic Pacific Ocean meets with tranquil and abundant Sea of Cortez. Tourism is one of the main industries in Los Cabos and it is geared towards the traveler who enjoys the warmth of the sun and the hospitality and culture of the locals. Because tourists are so important to life in Los Cabos, the government, local businesses, resorts, and people of Los Cabos have created a safe and relaxing environment for travelers and locals alike.

As the US State Department recently issued a travel advisory for Mexico, be advised that Baja California Sur and Los Cabos was not part of that travel advisory. The advisory targeted several specific areas of Mexico and you may read the warning for yourself at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_5440.html. Both physically and culturally, Los Cabos is separated from the events taking place in a few other Mexican destinations. Los Cabos remains a safe environment to vacation.

We don't have pictures yet, but we just got this wonderful email we have to share. This came from Stephenie just this morning. It was written to Georgina Tapia, our resident wedding planner at Cabo Azul Resort.

"Georgina,

I still can’t believe that our wedding is over, I just don’t know what to do with myself with out 5 emails from you in my inbox. You really helped make us feel so welcomed and so special. The event couldn’t have gone off any more flawlessly. Thanks so much for taking care of everything. Of course we really appreciate the 2^nd photo session, we are eagerly anticipating the pictures! Gaby is just such a pro and we had such a good time - it was nice to be a bit more comfortable, more relaxed, and seeing the 7:30 sunrise was just the icing on the cake. So, yes – you’ve heard from us – we had a wonderful time. J

As for the gratuity, the resort and you deserve everything and more. We (and the entire family) had a magnificent time! Really, we are just floored with how great everything turned out. The spa is just unparallel, the food is top notch and consistent! The service, the chapel, our minister, ….the great salsa duo and Gaby (boy what a pro), it was the wedding of our dreams. Travel with Confidence to Los Cabos

Travel to any destination you are not familiar with can illicit fear even among the most seasoned travelers. That fear is compounded when there are so many news reports that warn of violence and corruption at any destination. Our advice to everyone is to research your destination and plan accordingly.

One of the first things to look at is the US State Department Travel Advisories website. Pay special attention to the cities within those advisories. As we are specifically concerned about travelers' perceptions about Los Cabos in Baja California Sur, please take special note that Los Cabos is not mentioned in the most recent Mexico travel notice by the state department.

You will be happy to note, and not just from us, (again, do your own research), that there have not been any reports of gang violence in Los Cabos where travelers need to be concerned. Likewise, the local and state police have a very strong presence in Los Cabos that dissuades any such activity. That doesn't mean that you go to Cabo and be ignorant to your surroundings . . . it just means that you and your family can travel to Los Cabos with assurance that this beautiful destination, rich with cultural, is a great place to visit safely.

Also, look for responsible reporting . . . this is an article posted by the Travel Diva, Ellen Creager, from the Free Press. This supports what we've been saying about travel to Cabo (or anywhere) . . . "use common" sense when traveling and be aware of your surroundings.

On March 29, 2011, Cabo Azul Resort will be hosting the long awaited honeymoon of Peter Heck and Ivy Navarro. Never heard of them? Well they may not be mainstream celebrities, but they are in southern California. Peter and Ivy entered the $150,000 Wedding Giveaway sponsored by the Waterfront Beach Resort in 2010. On January 11, 2011 Peter and Ivy were crowned the winners of the contest that had hundreds of Entrants.
